BFT Hinge & Roller Replacement: The Denton Owner’s Guide

We stock and install BFT-compatible hinge and roller replacement parts for most residential BFT gate systems in Denton, with typical installed work running $140-$280 per hinge assembly or roller set, parts and labor included. Most repairs are done in a single visit, and we keep the common BFT sizes on the truck. You’ll usually notice a hinge or roller going bad before it fully lets go: the gate starts dragging on the opener, you’ll hear a grind or squeal on every cycle, or the gate will sit visibly crooked in the opening and bind midway through its travel.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

The BFT gate line runs heavier than most residential brands, and that matters when it comes to hinges and rollers. The Deimos, Rigel, and Phobos series swing gates use a top-hinge-bottom-bearing arrangement that’s specific to each model’s post mounting and gate weight. The BFT slide gate families, like the Moovi series, ride on guide rollers that sit under the gate frame or in a track at grade. The part that fits a Deimos BT A400 is often not the part that fits a Rigel 5, even if the bolt pattern looks close at a glance.

Before ordering anything, check the model plate on the operator housing. BFT stamps the series name and the voltage on a small aluminum tag, usually near the capacitor or on the inside of the plastic cover. If the plate is missing or faded, measure the hinge barrel diameter and the roller width with calipers and match it to the series specs. When an OEM BFT hinge or roller is backordered or priced for the sea freight it rode in on, a quality aftermarket equivalent from a US distributor works fine, and we’re up front with you about which is which before we quote. We’re an independent shop, by the way; we’re not affiliated with BFT, but we’ve been servicing their equipment in Denton long enough to know what crosses over and what doesn’t.

Signs Your BFT Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing

  • The gate shudders or stalls mid-travel. A hinge with a worn barrel or a roller with a flat spot forces the opener to push against resistance it wasn’t built for. The motor strains, the board gets hot, and eventually the gate stops halfway and sits there.
  • A dry metallic scrape or “clunk” on each cycle. That’s usually a roller bearing that’s lost its grease or a hinge pin that’s wallowed out its bore. In Denton’s dust and summer heat, the lubricant in these parts doesn’t last as long as the manual suggests.
  • The gate sags toward the free end when it’s open. A sag tells you the hinge point or the bottom roller is carrying weight it wasn’t meant to. Fix it before the panel starts dragging a groove into your concrete.
  • Visible rust weeping from the hinge or roller housing. North Texas humidity and the occasional ice storm do a number on plated steel. Once the plating is gone, the part degrades fast.
  • The opener trips the photo-eye or torque limiter more often. When the gate’s alignment is off by even a half-inch due to a failing hinge, the BFT safety circuit picks it up and reverses the gate repeatedly. That’s the system telling you something’s mechanically wrong.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A single BFT hinge replacement in Denton generally runs $140-$220 installed, and a roller set runs $180-$280, depending on the series and whether we need to lift and shim the gate to re-align it. The price includes the part, the labor, the adjustment to get the gate square in the opening again, and trash-out of the old hardware. If the hinge post itself is cracked or leaning, we’ll tell you before we start; that’s a different job and we won’t hide it in the final number.

The price we quote is the price you pay, agreed in writing before any work begins. Every job carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise, so if a hinge or roller we install fails inside 90 days, we come back and make it right, no runaround. For any repair over $200, we also take $40 off the invoice.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check the obvious things: run the gate manually with the opener disengaged and feel for binding, look for rust scale around the hinge pins, and watch the rollers as the gate moves to see if any of them have stopped spinning. That tells you where the trouble is, but it doesn’t give you a safe way to fix it. These gate panels are heavy, and once you knock out a hinge pin or a load-bearing roller on a BFT slide gate, the panel can shift and trap a hand or worse. Torsion from a misalignment can also throw the opener’s limit switches out, and then you’ve got two problems instead of one.

We do this in your driveway, on the gate where it sits. So if you’d rather not wrestle a few hundred pounds of steel over the weekend, give us a call at (940) 394-8744 and we’ll come look.
